In a study published in ‘Safe Journals’ about The Association between Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and the Outcome of a Deep Chemical Peeling, it was concluded that
“Hyperbaric oxygen therapy following PCP is associated with faster recovery as assessed by both patients and caregivers. So far, HBOT was mainly used in the treatment of problematic or chronic wounds. Our study suggests expanding the indications in which hyperbaric oxygen treatment is applicable and recommended”

Phenol Chemical Peeling
There are several non invasive and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures to hide the signs of ageing, reduce dark spots and make the skin on the face better. Such procedures include dermabrasion, chemical peeling, face fillers, facelift surgery etc.
Among the chemical peeling procedures, Phenol Chemical Peeling is a one time procedure that can give effective results that last long. Phenols are also known as carbolic acids. PCP is used to reduce the deep scars and blemishes on the skin. PCP procedure has to be performed only by an experienced cosmetic surgeon for the chemical is potentially dangerous and the procedure needs sedation and careful monitoring of the heart beat.

Since the chemical peel works on the deeper layers of the skin, severe pain and inflammation of the skin can be expected at the time of recovery and healing. When patients who underwent PCP are subject to HBOT during such period, the recovery will be less painful and much faster.
More on HBOT after PCP
Researchers at the Tel Aviv University in Israel, treated eight female patients with HBOT for five days after they underwent PCP. Pain, pruritus, erythema, crusting, scaling and oedema were the parameters that were measured during the recovery process.
After one month of everyday evaluation, the researchers determined that the patients who received HBOT experienced significantly better near-term and long-term outcomes for each of the measured parameters compared to the control group that didn’t undergo HBOT procedure. No side effects were reported during this time. As a part of conclusion, they recommended all PCP patients talking about HBOT as a complementary procedure during the recovery process.
